Our History
Born in Franklin, PA, Frank Leta came to the St. Louis area because he was stationed at Scott Air Force Base during the Korean War. After his service to our country, he got a job selling sewing machines at City Sewing Center in downtown St. Louis. He eventually opened his own small sewing machine business, and by 1960 he grew his company to include 6 stores. Wanting to have something stable in the summer months, he explored other business ventures and soon set his sights on Honda motorcycles because of their exceptional quality and reliability. After much convincing, Frank received the Honda Corporation’s approval to open a Honda motorcycle franchise in North St. Louis county in 1965. This accomplishment changed the trajectory of Frank’s life, as he spent his the rest of his career representing the Honda brand as they expanded their footprint by leaps and bounds in the United States over the next 60 years. Frank became the first Honda automobile dealer in the midwest in 1971 and he sold vehicles in North St. Louis County for over 40 years before moving his business to O’Fallon, MO where it exists today. Frank was also one of the first Acura dealers in the entire country in 1986, and Frank Leta Acura still exists in its original location in South St. Louis County. A third Frank Leta dealership, Frank Leta Automotive Outlet, sells pre-owned vehicles in the former facility of his Honda dealership when it operated in Bridgeton, MO.
