Used vs. Certified Pre-Owned
If you’re in the market for a new or used ride, you’ve got three options when it comes to car shopping: new, certified pre-owned, and used — and while it’s clear what a new car is, many shoppers are unsure of the differences between a CPO and a used vehicle. What is a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle?
A certified pre-owned vehicle is one that has been previously owned, with no more than 80,000 miles, and no older than six years. Unlike most used vehicles, certified pre-owned Acura models CPO models will also be backed by the original manufacturer and will be subjected to a thorough, 182-point inspection to ensure that they meet CPO standards. With an extended warranty that is good for 24 months or 100,000 total miles (whichever comes first), Acura will repair or replace any covered part that is defective in material or workmanship under normal use so that you can have confidence that your vehicle will continue operating properly for years to come.
All in all, the most important factor in regards to CPO vehicles is that for it to have been certified, it must be in excellent condition, be mechanically and cosmetically sound, and have a somewhat low odometer reading.
What is a Used Vehicle?
Used vehicles are far easier to understand, as it’s usually a “what you see is what you get” situation. While certified pre-owned cars have to undergo testing and inspections, used vehicles will not. These cars can be sold in any type of condition and unless you’re looking to purchase an extended warranty, the only type of protection you will have for your vehicle is a factory warranty (if it’s still in effect and fully transferable to your car).
